Ingredients & Allergens
While there are no egg-containing ingredients in the facility, sesame seeds are present in our facilities but do not share a manufacturing line with our products.
To the best of our knowledge, the plastics used in our manufacturing facilities do not contain latex.
Product & Quality
All of our products have a one-year shelf life from the manufacturing date.
We do not recommend consuming the product after its best by date because there may be variances in consistency, taste and overall quality of the product.
While the store is responsible for removing soon-to-be expired (or already expired!) products from the shelves, we truly appreciate your feedback on this issue and would love to send you a coupon for your next purchase! Should you come across an expired product on a store shelf, it is always helpful to notify a store employee so that they can promptly remove the affected products off the shelf.
We recommend storing our nut butters at room temperature so that it’s easier to spread. Once opened, it can last several months. As with any product made without artificial preservatives, it will spoil over time. We recommend consuming our nut butter within 1-6 months after opening.
The reason that we use palm oil is because it is a Non-GMO, non-hydrogenated oil that acts as a stabilizer and reduces oil separation. This means less stirring for you every time you dip into a jar! Adding other liquid oils wouldn’t stabilize the nut butters and would increase the oil layer at the top of the jar.
From the beginning, Justin’s has been focused on the responsible sourcing of all our ingredients, including our palm oil, and we are constantly pushing the supply chain for advancements in this area. We are members of the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm), which currently represents about 20% of the total palm oil supply. The RSPO encourages sustainable growing practices and human rights initiatives at the farm level, while promoting education about the cultivation and use of certified sustainable palm oil. RSPO is the leading organization to date for sustainably sourced palm oil and Justin’s is proud to be among the companies who are actively involved and invested in supporting these initiatives. All of our Certified Organic palm oil in our peanut butter cups is sourced from Central and South America and is certified under a fully traceable supply chain model. The palm oil used in our nut butter jars and squeeze packs is also certified sustainable under a mixed supply chain model. In addition to their RSPO membership, all of our palm oil suppliers have built their own independent sustainability policies, and the mass balance suppliers have plans to be fully traceable by 2020. Our nut butter cups are made with organic ingredients. While our nut butters are not certified organic, most of our secondary ingredients are. At this time, we do not source organic nuts for our nut butters, however Justin’s is committed to mindfully sourcing ingredients. If you have any additional questions, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
This is a natural occurrence called “cocoa bloom” that takes place when the cocoa butter separates, solidifies and rises to the surface of the jar. Although this blooming is not a food safety hazard, and is still consumable, we understand how the appearance may be alarming. Kindly send us a message with the flavor and best by date and a picture of the cocoa bloom and we are happy to replace your jar!
We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration. Our nut butter’s should always be creamy and delicious! While we strive to minimize oil separation in all of our nut butters, the nut butter should never be so dry that it is difficult to spread or get out of the jar. If you’ve experienced this, we recommend noting the best by date printed on the jar. Should you ever experience this, please let us know so that we can fix it.
While we strive to not have any oil separation in our nut butters, this is something that may occur naturally. While we typically do not suggest it, refrigerating your jar may help with extreme oil separation.
Glass jars are more susceptible to breakage in production and shipping. Our 100% BPA-free plastic jars provide for a shatter-free experience.
This is one of the reasons we do not use organic exclusively. We source almonds in the open market according to a very specific specification. Almond pricing and availability is subject to the supply and demand market.
